| PlayTT Guide Casino Scoring Methodology How we evaluate and rate casinos in Trinidad & Tobago |
| This document explains the full scoring framework used by the PlayTT Guide editorial team to evaluate every casino listed on our platform. Each casino is assessed across 11 major categories, with subcategory ratings feeding into a final score out of 10. |
How our scoring works
Every casino reviewed by PlayTT Guide is scored using a structured, consistent framework built around what matters most to players in Trinidad & Tobago. Our reviewers visit each venue in person and assess it across 11 categories, each made up of specific subcriteria rated on a scale of 1 to 10.
Category scores are weighted based on their importance to the overall casino experience. These weighted scores are combined to produce the casino’s final PlayTT Guide rating — a single number out of 10 that reflects the full picture.
The 1–10 rating scale
All subcategories and final scores use the following scale:
| Score | Rating | What it means |
| 9 – 10 | Exceptional | World-class standard. Among the very best available anywhere in TT. Sets the benchmark for others. |
| 7 – 8 | Very good | Significantly above average. Delivers a strong, enjoyable experience with only minor shortcomings. |
| 5 – 6 | Average | Meets basic expectations. Decent but unremarkable. Unlikely to disappoint or impress. |
| 3 – 4 | Below average | Falls short in meaningful ways. Noticeable issues that affect the experience. |
| 1 – 2 | Poor | Significant problems that seriously detract from enjoyment. Hard to recommend. |
The 11 scoring categories
Below is each category, its weighting in the final score, the subcategories we assess, and guidance on what each score range looks like in practice.
1. Game selection
Weight: 15% of final score
The variety, quality, and accessibility of games on offer is one of the core reasons people visit a casino. We look beyond the number of machines and tables to assess whether the selection genuinely caters to different player types and skill levels.
| Game selection | Weight: 15% |
| Table game variety | The range of table games offered — blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps, poker variants, and others. Higher scores go to venues with a wide and well-maintained selection. |
| Slot machine selection | The number of machines, variety of themes and game types, and whether they include both classic and modern video slots. We also look at whether machines are well-maintained and modern. |
| Table limits | Whether limits are available across a range — from low-stakes tables suitable for casual players to high-limit options for serious gamblers. Venues that cater to only one type of player score lower. |
| Poker room quality | Where a dedicated poker room or regular poker offering exists, we assess the quality of the setup, the regularity of games, and whether tournaments are hosted. |
| Electronic & specialty games | Availability of electronic roulette, video poker, keno, and other specialty options that round out a venue’s offering beyond traditional tables and slots. |
2. Table limits
Weight: 10% of final score
Accessible table limits are a significant factor in whether a casino is welcoming to a broad range of players. This category looks specifically at how well a venue accommodates both recreational and high-stakes players.
| Table limits | Weight: 10% |
| Minimum bet accessibility | Whether low minimum bets are available across game types, making the venue accessible to casual players and those trying a game for the first time. |
| High-limit availability | Whether high-stakes tables or a dedicated high-limit room are available for experienced or high-roller players. |
| Limit transparency | Whether table limits are clearly displayed, and whether the rules around increasing or adjusting limits are fair and communicated clearly to players. |
| Flexibility & peak hours | Whether limits change at peak times in a way that may exclude certain players, and how that is communicated. |
3. Staff & service
Weight: 12% of final score
Great staff can elevate an average venue; poor service can ruin an otherwise excellent one. We assess the quality of interactions across all staff — from dealers to bartenders to security — throughout the visit.
| Staff & service | Weight: 12% |
| Dealer professionalism | The competence, courtesy, and composure of table game dealers. We look at pace of play, clarity in explaining rules, and how they handle disputes or unusual situations. |
| Floor staff & hosts | How attentive and visible floor managers and hosts are. Do they check in with guests? Are they accessible when needed without being intrusive? |
| Speed of service | Wait times at the bar, for food orders, for assistance at machines or tables, and for cash handling or chip exchanges. |
| Friendliness & attitude | The overall warmth and approachability of all staff. Guests should feel welcome regardless of how much they are spending. |
| Problem resolution | How well staff handle complaints, technical issues with machines, or disputes. Venues with clear processes and empowered staff score highest. |
4. Atmosphere & decor
Weight: 10% of final score
A casino’s atmosphere shapes the entire experience. We evaluate the physical environment — from the quality of the fit-out to the noise level, lighting, and overall ambience — to determine whether it creates an enjoyable space to spend time in.
| Atmosphere & decor | Weight: 10% |
| Interior design & fit-out | The quality, condition, and style of the physical space. Does it feel premium, clean, and well-maintained? Or dated, worn, or poorly laid out? |
| Lighting & ambience | Whether the lighting creates the right mood — comfortable for prolonged play, not overly harsh or dim. Includes decorative lighting and the overall aesthetic. |
| Noise & crowding | How the venue manages sound levels and crowd flow. Is there a comfortable amount of space per player? Is the noise level enjoyable or overwhelming? |
| Cleanliness & upkeep | The cleanliness of the gaming floor, bathrooms, bar and dining areas, and common spaces. Includes how frequently machines and tables are cleaned and maintained. |
| Theme & character | Whether the casino has a distinct identity and personality that makes it memorable, as opposed to a generic feel. |
5. Food & beverage
Weight: 10% of final score
The quality of food and drink has a significant impact on how long guests stay and how much they enjoy their visit. We assess both what’s on offer and how well it’s delivered.
| Food & beverage | Weight: 10% |
| Food quality & menu range | The standard of food available — whether it’s a full restaurant, bar snacks, or a buffet. We assess taste, freshness, and variety. |
| Bar quality & selection | The range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available. Includes cocktail quality, local spirit options, and beer selection. |
| Complimentary offerings | Whether the venue offers complimentary drinks, snacks, or meals to players, and the quality and generosity of what is offered. |
| Service speed & reliability | How quickly food and drink orders are taken and delivered, and consistency in getting orders right. |
| Value for money | Whether prices are fair relative to the quality. Captive-audience pricing that feels exploitative scores poorly. |
6. Location & accessibility
Weight: 8% of final score
Where a casino is located and how easy it is to get to and move around affects who can visit and how enjoyable the experience is before and after gaming.
| Location & accessibility | Weight: 8% |
| Ease of access | Proximity to main roads, transport links, and population centres. Is it easy to find and reach by car or public transport? |
| Parking availability | The size, security, and convenience of parking. Is it free? Well-lit? Easy to navigate? |
| Physical accessibility | Whether the venue is accessible to guests with mobility challenges — ramps, lifts, accessible bathrooms, and staff awareness. |
| Neighbourhood & surroundings | The safety and convenience of the surrounding area. Is there anything else nearby? Is it in a location guests feel comfortable visiting at night? |
7. Deals & promotions
Weight: 8% of final score
Casinos that reward player loyalty and offer genuine value through promotions give visitors more reason to return. We assess how meaningful and accessible the promotional offering is.
| Deals & promotions | Weight: 8% |
| Welcome or sign-up offers | Whether new visitors receive any welcome incentives — bonus play credit, free spins, meal vouchers, or similar. |
| Loyalty programme quality | The structure and value of any ongoing player rewards scheme. Are points easy to earn and redeem? Is the programme tiered for regular visitors? |
| Regular promotions | The frequency and appeal of ongoing deals — happy hours, cashback events, prize draws, or free-play days. |
| Promotional transparency | Whether terms and conditions for promotions are clear and fair, with no hidden restrictions. |
8. Events & entertainment
Weight: 7% of final score
Entertainment beyond gaming — live music, tournaments, special nights, and themed events — enriches the experience and builds a sense of community around the venue.
| Events & entertainment | Weight: 7% |
| Live entertainment | Whether the venue hosts live music, DJs, or performances, and the quality and frequency of these events. |
| Poker & gaming tournaments | Whether the casino runs regular poker tournaments or other competitive gaming events open to the public. |
| Special events & themed nights | Themed events, sporting event screenings, seasonal celebrations, and other programming that makes the venue feel active and social. |
| Event communication | How well the casino promotes upcoming events — through social media, email, signage — so that interested guests can plan ahead. |
9. Safety & security
Weight: 10% of final score
Players need to feel safe and confident that the games they are playing are fair. We assess both physical security and the integrity of the gaming operation.
| Safety & security | Weight: 10% |
| Physical security | The presence and professionalism of security personnel. Is the venue well-monitored? Are guests protected from external threats? |
| CCTV & surveillance | Whether a comprehensive surveillance system is visibly in operation, and whether staff use it effectively to maintain fairness and safety. |
| Game fairness & integrity | Whether games are run fairly — dealer shuffle procedures, machine maintenance, and visible compliance with regulatory standards. |
| Licensing & compliance | Whether the casino holds current and valid gaming licences and complies with local regulatory requirements. |
| Responsible gambling practices | Whether the venue takes responsible gambling seriously — signage, self-exclusion programmes, staff training to identify at-risk players. |
10. Overall experience
Weight: 10% of final score
Beyond the individual components, we assess the visit as a whole — how the different elements come together, and whether we would recommend the casino to a friend. This is a holistic assessment by the reviewer.
| Overall experience | Weight: 10% |
| First impression & arrival | The experience from the moment a guest arrives — parking, entry, how they are greeted, and the initial impression of the space. |
| Flow & pacing of visit | Whether the visit felt enjoyable and natural, or disjointed and frustrating. Did the evening flow well? |
| Value for money overall | Whether the full experience — games, food, service, entertainment — felt worth the money spent. |
| Would we recommend it? | A genuine gut-check: would our reviewer personally recommend this casino to a friend, and to what type of visitor? |
| Unique selling point | Whether the casino offers something that genuinely sets it apart from others — something a player cannot find elsewhere in TT. |
How the final score is calculated
Each of the 11 categories is given a weighting that reflects its relative importance to the overall experience. A category score is calculated by averaging its subcategory ratings. Those category scores are then multiplied by their weighting and summed to produce a final score out of 10.
| Example: If a casino scores 8.0 in Game Selection (weight 15%), that contributes 8.0 × 0.15 = 1.20 points to the final score. All weighted contributions are added together to reach the final PlayTT Guide rating. |
| Category | Weight | Subcategories |
| Game selection | 15% | 5 |
| Table limits | 10% | 4 |
| Staff & service | 12% | 5 |
| Atmosphere & decor | 10% | 5 |
| Food & beverage | 10% | 5 |
| Location & accessibility | 8% | 4 |
| Deals & promotions | 8% | 4 |
| Events & entertainment | 7% | 4 |
| Safety & security | 10% | 5 |
| Overall experience | 10% | 5 |
Review integrity
All PlayTT Guide reviews are conducted by our editorial team following unannounced visits. Casinos do not pay to be listed or to influence their score. Where a casino disagrees with a score, they may submit factual corrections through our listings portal — any updates to factual information (hours, contact details, etc.) are noted on the page, but editorial scores remain the independent judgement of our reviewers.
Scores are reviewed and updated at least annually, or following significant changes to a venue such as a renovation, change of management, or expansion of services.
| PlayTT Guide is an independent publication. Our scores and reviews represent the honest opinion of our editorial team and are not influenced by commercial relationships with any casino or venue. |
